Odoo ERP for PT Gesit Nazelo
Overview
This was my capstone project for Information Systems at ITS. The assignment was to find a real company as a team and build something for them, so my team of three picked PT Gesit Nazelo Protection, a cathodic protection and anti-corrosion company based in Bogor, West Java that works with clients like Pertamina and Bakri Industries. Before we came in, their quotations lived in scattered Excel files, purchase orders got approved over WhatsApp with no record of it, and nobody actually knew a project's profit until someone calculated it by hand at the end of the month.
The Build
What I Built
I was the project manager. After we sat down with Gesit's team and heard where things kept breaking, I was the one who pushed for building a full ERP instead of a smaller tool, since production work like theirs needed everything in one place. We went with Odoo Community Edition so we could focus on configuring it to actually match how Gesit works instead of coding something from scratch. I set up the VPS myself, planned out how the four modules (Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting) should map to their process, then handed that plan to the team to execute inside Odoo, things like entering client data, products, and configuring the workflows. I also organized our shared Drive so the whole team could actually find things.
What I Learned
This was the first time I led something end to end instead of just contributing a piece of it. The interview we ran with Gesit's ops team in March stuck with me, especially hearing that they had no PPIC role at all, so production scheduling was reactive instead of planned, and stock ran out mid-production because nobody had visibility into it until someone physically walked the floor to check. The hard part wasn't configuring Odoo itself, it was translating that messy, half-hour conversation into four modules that actually matched how a factory floor works, then trusting my team to execute it without me micromanaging every screen.
Outcome
By the end, quotations went from inconsistent Excel files to standardized auto-generated PDFs, purchase orders moved from WhatsApp threads to a digital workflow with an actual audit trail, and profit and loss became something you could check live per project instead of waiting until month-end. We demoed the finished system to Gesit's team in June.
